Joaquim the hitchhiking butterfly and farewells.

2 april 2016 - Foz do Iguaçu, Brazilië

Our way home has begun! Kind off. We are currently sitting at the airport on the Brazilian side of Iguaçu waiting for our flight to Rio. We will be staying at an airport hotel for one night, and then we part ways on Sunday.

For a holiday it has been. The showers pretty remained cold the whole time, but now by choice. I have spoken more Dutch and Norwegian than I have in a year, consumed a record amount of caiprinhias and burned through bottles of sunscreen. I got to dance samba, train capoeira, play beach volleyball, swim in Waterfalls, surf at Lopes Mendes beach, take a boat ride through the Iguaçu Waterfalls and the lagoons of Ilha Grande, go hang gliding in Rio, hike through mountains, party in Rio and Paraty, snorkel amongst massive schools of fish meet loads of people from all around the world, and eat fantastic Brazilian dishes. I now have a ridiculous amount of Brazilian and Argentinian stamps in my passport, saw monkeys, coatis, so many different birds, fish, and the most colourful butterflies I've ever seen (though the prettiest, without a doubt, was a bright green huge butterfly we decided to name Joaquim)

So yes, I can definitely recommend Brazil as a holiday destination for basically anyone. The cachaca has been purchased and is gonna be taken back with me to the UK, along with 5kg worth of shopped goods. My skin is still white, as expected, and covered in mosquito bites (hopefully no Zika) but I'm proud to say that I managed to stay in the sun with barely any sunscreen for a full day without getting a sunburn! This definitely won't be my last time in South America, I know that for sure!

Next up, Edinburgh!

Xxx
